Calming Techniques


A Few Words to Preface...

I know it may seem strange to include an article on calming techniques in a section of the site called "Wrath", but none the less this article still attempts to spread my thoughts to the masses, to share with the willing and/or unwilling my personal opinions and ideas, and in this case, technique for calming and centering one's mind.

I use this technique in many aspects of life. At work, it keeps me from unleashing other forms of wrath upon my co-workers. In life, it helps me get through moments of stress and self-doubt, for example while rock climbing or flying sailplanes. It's even helpful when last weekend's party bill threatens this week's grocery bill.


Calming and Centering Techique

1. Breath -- Begin deep, controlled breathing.
2. Smile -- Adopt a postitive facial expression; smile.
3. Balance -- Adjust posture to a balanced, upright position.
4. Relax -- Release tension in limbs, let relaxation flow over the body.
5. Acknowledge -- Acknowledge the source of stress; do not deny it, but instead come to terms with it.
6. Control -- Assert control over the source over the source of stress and take action to remove or address it.
